FFT:

What we do…

Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an empirically grounded, well-documented and highly successful family intervention for at-risk youth ages 10 to 18 whose problems range from acting out to conduct disorders to alcohol and/or substance abuse. FFT is a short-term, high quality intervention program with an average of 12 sessions over a 3-4 month period. Services are conducted in both clinic and home settings, and can also be provided in a variety of settings including schools, child welfare facilities, probation and parole offices/aftercare systems, and mental health facilities.

How we do it…

FFT is a strength-based model. At its core is a focus and assessment of those risk and protective factors that impact the adolescent and his or her environment, with specific attention paid both intrafamilial and extrafamilial factors, and how they present within and influence the therapeutic process.

FFT Partners…

Kente Circle’s FFT team receives referrals through Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation and functions as a part of a larger team of partners including: HSI New Generations, and Volunteers of America. FFT Inc. trains, consults and provides quality assurance for the FFT Program.

The result…

Since FFT was founded in 1972, FFT has demonstrated positive program outcomes across a wide range of youth and communities;

  • Significant and long-term reductions in youth re-offending and violent behavior
  • ignificant effectiveness in reducing sibling entry into high-risk behaviors
  • Low drop-out and high completion rates, and positive impacts on family conflict, family communication, parenting, and youth problem behavior
